Finding copper in Subnautica 2 is something you’ll eventually consider second nature, but initially, getting the stuff feels a bit hit-and-miss. The advice for finding it that your PDA assistant gives you is only accurate depending on the day, as copper seems to spawn randomly. It’s essential to have a small store of copper on hand as you progress through the game, though, since you need it and copper ingots for almost every crafting blueprint that involves electronics.
Below, we explain where to find copper in Subnautica 2, including one reliable early-game copper farming spot.
[Ed. note: Before you dive in, be sure to open the character menu and enable all landmark signals. This will make it easier to spot the locations mentioned in this guide.]
Where to find copper in Subnautica 2
Copper appears at random on the underside of overhangs and, more commonly, in caves. That’s the official description from the in-game encyclopedia, and while it is technically true, it’s a little misleading. These spots don’t always have copper, even though they’re where the mineral has a chance of appearing.
Overhang refers to those stone archways you see dotted about the seafloor, but you’re often more likely to find titanium there instead of copper. Sometimes, the copper is sticking out of nearby rocks on the seafloor, too. The cave systems around the Lifepod may have copper deposits, but sometimes they don’t! Later in the game, you’ll also find large deposits of copper jutting out from the side of a cliff, which is definitely not a cave or an overhang.
Basically, there’s a chance you’ll find copper anywhere there’s a lot of rock. You’ll need to use the sonic resonator to farm copper from bigger deposits, but you can just gather it normally from the smaller ones.

However, there is one area where you’re more likely to find copper, and it’s close to the Lifepod’s landing spot, without needing the sonic resonator. Travel roughly 150 meters north until you see this large coral dome. Underneath is a small opening with glowing green flowers lining the cave walls. The passage opens into a large cave, where you’ll find at least a handful of copper deposits, if not larger chunks that give you multiple pieces, along with some silver. There’s also an air pocket nearby.
The cave extends further, if you want to explore and grab more materials, but the copper you find here should be more than enough for the initial projects that require copper. Once you start traveling further afield, just make it a point to grab any copper you see.
