While Insomniac Games never publicly announced a video game starring Venom, fans of the Marvel’s Spider-Man games are currently left wondering whether such a game ever existed or was canceled, following conflicting statements from Miles Morales actor Nadji Jeter and Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier.
A Venom game was referenced in the Insomniac leaks from 2023, but neither Insomniac nor Sony Interactive Entertainment ever officially announced such a game. In an interview with the Love it Film podcast posted on April 24, Miles Morales actor Nadji Jeter claimed that a Venom project was canceled after Tony Todd, who portrayed the character in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, died of stomach cancer in 2024.
While Jeter initially refers to a Venom game and DLC, he then reiterates multiple times that Insomniac was making a full video game starring Venom and claims that he was shown how it was going to start.
This claim obviously caught the attention of the Spider-Man fandom and spawned lots of discussion on platforms like Reddit and ResetERA. In response, others came out of the woodwork to state that the game had not been canceled. That includes a developer from Allfather Productions on ResetEra and Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier.
Schreier, who has a storied track record of accurately reporting on PlayStation, stated, “This isn’t true” on a ResetEra thread about Jeter’s claim. We reached out to Schreier for further clarification on his claim and will update when we get a response.
Ultimately, this whole situation leaves Marvel’s Spider-Man fans confused about what to expect next. A Venom spin-off seemed plausible following Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s launch and the Insomniac leaks, but we haven’t heard anything official about it in the past two-and-a-half years. Now, these conflicting claims from Nadji Jeter, an actor who worked on the games, and Schreier, a reliable reporter, leave us unsure if a Venom game from Insomniac is still in development or was canceled.
While the fate of a potential Venom game from Insomniac is unclear, we do know when to expect the developer’s next superhero game. Marvel’s Wolverine will be released exclusively for PS5 on Sept.15.
