Supermassive goes to space
Directive 8020, the latest entry in the long-running Dark Pictures Anthology from Supermassive Games, is finally here. For the first time, the series is in space, as you control five different characters aboard the Cassiopeia, a colony ship scouting the planet Tau Ceti f, to see if it’s suitable for humanity’s future. Check out the first hour of gameplay above, along with more details about the story and what to expect.
During the opening episode, a meteorite collides with the Cassiopeia, bringing an alien life form aboard. The two sleep technicians quickly succumb to the entity’s power, so when the remainder of the crew are awoken from hypersleep early, they’re disoriented and unsure what’s happening.
As control jumps from one character to the next, it’s up to you to discover what’s going on and keep the crew alive. In true Supermassive Games style, as with games like Until Dawn and The Quarry, there are countless ways each character can die, but thanks to a new mechanic called “turning points,” you can rewind to each pivotal moment in order to save them.
Expect plenty of twists and turns in this Alien-inspired survival horror, along with stealth sections that will test your ability to keep it cool when you’re being hunted by a being more powerful than you.
An alien twist on Until Dawn can’t transcend B-movie thrills
