The new season will adapt a key storyline from the ’90s
The next season of My Adventures with Superman, the anime-inspired take on DC’s popular hero, is set to start airing next month. Ahead of its premiere, Adult Swim shared the first extended look at the upcoming season, spotlighting a busy Superman, the cyborg enemy he’ll square off against, and newcomer Superboy.
The third season will adapt the Reign of the Supermen arc from the ’90s that sees several Superman-like characters try to take up the mantle of the hero after his death at the hands of Doomsday. (Superman is alive and well in My Adventures with Superman, thankfully.) The villainous Cyborg Superman debuted in Reign of the Supermen and has been a recurring Superman foe in the comics and other DC properties since then.
Season 3 will also see Superboy, voiced by Darren Criss, join the cast. Superboy, a clone of Superman, is seen fighting Cyborg Superman and being a bit of an annoying teen in the trailer. After being a major part of season 2, Supergirl will also join the fray against Cyborg Superman, as the heroes will need all hands on deck.
My Adventures with Superman season 3 will premiere June 13 on Adult Swim and will stream on HBO Max the next day. It’ll feature a cameo from Green Lantern Jessica Cruz at some point, presumably setting up her spin-off My Adventures with Green Lantern. That series was announced early last year, but it is without a release window at this time.
