To find celestine in Subnautica 2, you must dive deep — really deep, this time. Whereas ores like gold and sulfur are found at medium (albeit heated) depths, celestine only spawns in the deepest, darkest corners of the ocean, and only in a specific region. With the right equipment, however, you’ll find celestine, and therefore strontium, aplenty.
Here’s where to find celestine and how to craft strontium in Subnautica 2.
[Ed. note: Before you dive in, be sure to open the character menu and enable all landmark signals. This will make it easier to spot the locations mentioned in this guide.]
Where to find celestine in Subnautica 2
Celestine is a type of silver-bluish ore that spawns on rock walls and the deep seabed. You’ll find it in abundance near the Alien Ruins (about 1,300 meters east of the Lifepod) but only around 250 meters deep. As it happens, 250 meters is the depth limit of the tadpole, the first submarine in Subnautica 2, so it’s necessary to craft this vehicle first. It would be useful to get the tadpole’s depth module upgrade too, as this allows you to dive deeper than 250 meters, but you don’t have to. Likewise, a high-capacity airtank is recommended, but not required.
Our guide on how to get a tadpole submarine explains this in more detail, but in short, you must scan three tadpole fragments, unlock the moonpool blueprint, and build a base with a moonpool and vehicle fabricator. The whole process involves the “Investigate the Tadpole Pens” mission and requires rare resources like silver, sulfur, and gold.
When you’re ready, grab a sonic resonator (to break celestine boulders) and pilot the tadpole to a depth of 250 meters to start your search for celestine deposits. Remember; don’t go deeper if you don’t have the depth module yet, or the tadpole will take damage. If you see some celestine below 250 meters, simply park the tadpole at 250 meters and swim down to collect the celestine.
You should receive one to three pieces of celestine per deposit. To turn celestine into strontium, use a processor, just like you did with titanium, copper, and lead. Two pieces of celestine make one piece of strontium. It takes 30 seconds to process.
Best celestine farming location in Subnautica 2
To guarantee a plentiful celestine haul in Subnautica 2, here’s a great celestine farming spot near the Alien Ruins, with plenty of boulders near the 250-meter threshold and no aggressive fish nearby. Take the tadpole, drive 180 meters northeast, then drop 250 meters down and look back toward the rock wall. You will see a celestine deposit next to a current; this is the first in a long line going west-northwest along the cliff’s edge. There’s also an extra deposit on the lower wall.
When you move west along the wall, look out for the cave; enter it to find two more celestine deposits. This farming spot offers seven large celestine deposits in total.
If you’re starting out in Subnautica 2, we have a plethora of guides to help you navigate the deep blue sea. Our Subnautica 2 beginner’s guide will set you off in the right direction and our base building tips will assist in planning out your sprawling base. Don’t forget to stock up on food and water, too. (And if you want to get fancy with your food, you’ll want salt!)
If you need help finding materials, we explain how to get the sonic resonator, which you’ll want to mine tons of materials. We have guides on where to find these resources, like lead, sulfur, copper, quartz, and gold.
