Hellboy in Love: Black Eyes is out next week
Just because he’s destined to bring about the apocalypse doesn’t mean Hellboy isn’t allowed to enjoy life. He finds a little romance along the way, like being in a relationship with fellow BPRD agent Liz Sherman in the Guillermo del Toro films. Hellboy creator Mike Mignola‘s Hellboy in Love comics explore his romance with archaeologist Anastasia Bransfield, and there’s a new one-shot out next week.
Hellboy in Love: Black Eyes follows Hellboy and Bransfield visiting former BPRD agents, Archie and Margaret, in Dec. 1979 for a cozy getaway. Of course, this wouldn’t be a Hellboy story if things didn’t take a turn for the supernatural. He and Anastasia investigate the local ghost who has been haunting the tiny village of Coventry, England.
Hellboy in Love: Black Eyes is written by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden. It’s drawn by Alex Nieto and lettered by Clem Robins. You can take a look at the preview pages below, showing Hellboy and Anastasia’s arrival as well as the one-shot’s cover by Nieto.
Anastasia debuted in the novel Hellboy: The Lost Army, written by Golden. The archaeologist is introduced as Hellboy’s ex-girlfriend, and the various Hellboy in Love comics have explored their relationship, which involved fighting ghosts and goblins. The two-parters Hellboy in Love: Goblin Night and Hellboy in Love: Shadow Theater were collected together with the one-shot Hellboy in Love: The Key To It All in a 2023 hardcover.
You can see where Hellboy and Anastasia’s next investigation leads when Hellboy in Love: Black Eyes is released in comic shops on Wednesday, April 29.
